Poultry
Chickens, Turkey's, Muscovy Duck

UPDATE 4/20/2012
Raising Chickens for Sale will no longer be a service of BRC. We have one regular customer and ourselves we will continue to grow for. There is too much financial risk and sales have not been good or worth the effort or financial loss despite our constant focus on the best meat chicken at the lowest price. We are proud to have been leaders in bringing the Freedom Ranger to the attention of other chicken raisers in our area and beyond with our consistent study and investigations into the meat breeds of chicken that would replace non sustainable hybrids along with our focus on providing the best feeds and grass pastures. We will continue to raise Turkeys for sale who we will continue to raise on pasture and range in the very real sense of the term.

We raise turkey's, Chickens and Muscovy ducks. We use only the best stock to raise the best meats and eggs. When you buy finished and dressed poultry from our CSA you are buying unsalted whole birds with no added water or flavor enhancers that are raised in humane and free range conditions. We cannot raise them like corporate chicken farms and charge a small price like you may be used to in the super markets.

Our finished meat chicken is termed 'Poulet Rouge Fermiere'. We began raising the breed used for the Label Rouge program in France in early 2010. Even though it is the same breed we are not allowed to use the Label Rouge name in the United States and many now call this breed 'Freedom Rangers'.

The poulet rouge fermiere is a longer bodied chicken with a longer breast and heavier leg  and thigh meat with a finished weight of 5-8 pounds. As for flavor comments such as 'more chickeny' , richer and fuller flavored, moist and tender. This is The Flagship for the Label Rouge program in France after all.
Meat Chickens are raised fully free ranged, after full feathering,  and all the beer barley they want. They are raised for 12-14 weeks.

Prices:
whole chicken $10  ---deposit required

We raise our turkeys, Bronzes, also to full feathering and then allow complete free range. Turkeys are very social and end up spending alot of time following people around. Pull up in our driveway during the summer and fall and you may be greeted heartily by the whole flock. No worries. They've never drawn blood and will simply talk to you and follow you to your destination. Our turkey flocks are also fed whole grains but are much more voracious when it comes to ranging for grasshoppers and grass eating than chickens.
We raise our turkeys for 6 months for a developed flavor and a longer, better quality of life for the turkey. Very few farms raise their turkeys this slowly with no regard to fast growth. Flavor is our intention not the growth that is accomplished with formulated feeds. Some years our turkeys will finish out with an 20-30 lb average weight and some years the average finished weights are 15-25 lbs or smaller. This is dependant on available range and weather. The only free feeding they do is on range.

Prices each:
One whole butchered turkey $45--- deposit required

Turkey's arrive at processor healthy, clean, and happy.
So fast! These are our turkeys put down quietly and efficiently, then moved to the first stage of scalding and plucking.
In the second stage area the ladies work fast to clean the birds and get them into the cooler
We're so proud of these Turkey's. From the pro's we got kudo's like 'this is what a Turkey should look like.

For home use processing. We have no idea why we waited so many years to start going to Harrington's. We were obviously confused but have used them several times in the past year for our kept poultry. You can choose to have your poultry you get from us processed by them too.
Our Thanksgiving Turkey's did not suffer at all. From start to finish was maybe 15 minutes to the cooling tank.
There was no smell, I'm big on smells. No flies. They clean constantly throughout the whole process and allowed us to watch and take photo's. Which they've done before when we've had chickens done. They really care about the livestock too which is incredibly important.  Being able to be involved at this stage is just as important, if not more important, than feeding and caring for them.
